The Walnut Creek Country Club Pecan Course in Mansfield, a par 70 layout designed by Don January, will host the 2012 ezLocator DFW Tournament of Champions Oct. 19-20, reports tournament director James McAfee.

“We’re also pleased to announce that ezLocator has assumed the role of title sponsor,” McAfee added.

“As a past participant in this event, this event has always been very special to me,” says Jon Schultz, President of ezLocator. “We are very pleased to be the title sponsor of this event that showcases the elite amateur golfers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.”

The event was started back in 1980 by Ben Parks of Rockwall, who remains as the honorary tournament chairman. It later became known as “The Dallas Morning News Tournament of Champions” before it dropped off the schedule in 2006. McAfee, the former executive director of the Northern Texas PGA and the Dallas District Golf Association, got the blessing of Parks and brought the event back on the schedule in 2008 at The Honors Golf Club Dallas in Carrollton. It was held at the Lantana Golf Club and the Stonebriar Country Club Fazio Course the following two years.

Steve Polinski of the Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth posted 72-69—141 at The Old American Golf Club in The Colony last year to take the Ben Parks Trophy, finishing one stroke in front of Todd McGrew of The Trophy Club and Paul Goering of Dallas. After rain delayed the women’s division, it was then cancelled after officials determined not enough players could make any new dates.

The event is open to all champions from clubs and courses in North Texas along with players given exemptions as former champions or among the top 10 finishers from the previous event.

“After hearing from many players that clubs are now holding club championships for senior males, we are going to add this division for 2012,” McAfee said. “It will be for senior club champions (55 and older) and a different set of tees will be used.” The champion will receive the James McAfee Trophy

New IPhone app provides clubs, golfers daily updates of pin locations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

RICHARDSON, TX (February 13, 2012) – Clubs and courses wanting optimum green conditions, pin locations that are challenging for golfers and professional pin sheets should follow the lead of some of the top private clubs in the United States and Canada who are already using ezLocator at their golf courses.

Jon Schultz, the inventor of the innovative ezLocator software program, will be in booth 806 at the Golf Industry Show, scheduled Feb. 29-March 1, 2012 at the Las Vegas Concention Center, discussing the value of this tool in selecting hole locations and enhancing the players’ experiences.

Clubs and their staffs across the country rave about how they are benefitting from the operational efficiencies that the ezLocator web interface provides, allowing superintendents to spend less than an hour a week managing pin locations and the golf shops to share professional pin sheets for their members. Because the ezLocator provides additional pin placements that some of the older systems didn’t, the golfers like the idea of playing a different course every day. Superintendents also find that using ezLocator has actually helped them better maintain the greens, reducing wear and tear in certain areas.

ezLocator delivers its solution over the internet, using a computer web-browser interface or a smart mobile device. All of the ezLocator’s data and software are stored in a secured central location and does not require a user to be in a specific place to gain access to it.
Customers find that the cloud-computing system, whereby any user with an Intrernet connection can gain access, allows them to reduce the total cost of hardware and software ownership since they are not required to purchase new hardware every time the software is upgraded.

“ezLocator’s cloud-based architecture affords our company the opportunity to economically deliver additional software functionality and support multiple hardware platforms to all our customers,” Schultz said. “We can upgrade the software more frequently and quickly.”

Schultz’s latest upgrade is a free IPhone app. “It will allow our customers and their members to have at their finger tips daily updates of their club’s pin locations,” Schultz said.

A list of the elite clubs using ezLocator includes: Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas Country Club and Dallas National Golf Club in Dallas, TX; Dallas Athletic Club in Mesquite; The Honors Golf Club Dallas in Carrollton, TX; Lantana Golf Club in Lantana, TX; The Vaquero Club in Westlake, TX; Austin Country Club in Austin, TX; Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY; Willow Ridge Country Club in Hutchinson, NY; Old Sandwich Golf Club in Plymouth, MA; Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, NC; Lost Dunes Golf Club in Bridgman, MI; Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Canada; and St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Canada.

“We are committed to serving the golf industry with integrity, compassion and pride,” Schultz said. “We are truly dedicated to providing our clients with the highest quality products and services available today.”

###

Article republished from Mr. Business Golf ….for more info go to… http://www.mrbusinessgolf.com/archives/117 or read below….

From time to time I find a product or service that I find tremendously interesting. Sometimes this service or product offers a unique solution to the many problems facing golf. The following is one of those services and products. I do not endorse nor am I getting paid to post the following information..at least not at this time. I hope you enjoy my discovery.

Mr Business Golf

Have you ever walked off the green of a very difficult golf hole and said “Is Fred Couples playing here today because that pin placement is one only he could get to?!?!” Did you know there is a science to where the pin is placed on a golf green? Plus, did you know there is now a software program created to improve managing pin placement? Yes, there are a lot of questions golfers ask about things related to golf that makes playing golf very interesting. Pin placement is something most golfers take for granted, but there is a reason that flag is placed where it is..but did you know that sometimes there are better places to place the pin?

Eventually every golfer is going to experience a variety of different golf courses. Where the hole is placed on the putting green can make the course a ‘Bear’ or a pleasant experience. Where a pin is placed on the green could also cost you a golf stroke or two which would not make your golf experience very pleasant.

Pin placements are also an issue to the golf course superintendents as well. Managing where the hole is to be placed on each green of a golf course can be very daunting and in cases where the greens are shaped uniquely it makes rotating pin placements so the green gets even wear a very difficult job.

For the tournament directors and the golf professionals pin placement can cause or solve other problems. Depending on the golf skill level of the members of a golf club, pin placements can cause either slow play or boredom. Setting up a golf course for a tournament or competition can be nerve racking if where the pins can be placed are limited.

There is a lot that goes into managing a golf course and pin placement is moving to the top of the list of issues golf courses have to deal with everyday. Maintaining a golf green is the most costly part of all of the course operations. The wear and tear of players walking on the grass can cause the greenkeepers huge headaches and result in very expensive repairs. Those costs for repairs eventually get passed on to the members of a club or to be added onto the green fees. Cost increases are not appealing to anyone.

The average golfers usually is never concerned with where the hole is on the green. They usually play to their strengths and approach the green as a whole instead of breaking it down to sections. The beginner golfer sometimes will fret with where the pin is since sometimes it is placed in a location where they are not able to approach. The advance golfer usually is not concerned with the placement unless there is no variety to the placements between being easy or hard through the 18 holes. However, every golfer of any level of skill will eventually get bored at playing to the same place on the green.

For golf courses with just one golf course making the course exciting for all to play and different each time a golfer plays the course is very hard to do. Hours are spent by golf course management and personnel dealing with this one issue..Pin Placement.

There is a science around the placement of pins on golf greens. Many types of tools and processes are used today to make a decision on where the hole can be punched and then making sure there is a rotation of the hole locations around the green so even play and wear to the grass is maintained. Most of the systems developed over the years depend on some sort of manual processing which is labor intense and very limiting.

Now, there is a system available to make pin placement an easier task for all. ezLocator offers an innovative software program for golf facilities to use to automatically provide the course management a daily pin sheet with just a click of mouse.

ezLocator is powered by data that is gathered by their partner, Playbooks of Golf. They visit the golf club and find all possible hole locations on every green. From there they map with GPS technology to include the correct pacing measurements required to place the hole in the correct area. The data is then uploaded to the ezLocator software and the pin placement system is ready to go.

What is produced from the software is a pin sheet that shows EXACTLY where the pin is located on the green. No more of this Blue – White – Green..Back – Middle – Front..or some obscure numbering system that has to be coordinated to some section of a green painted on a sheet of paper.

85% of golfers are visual and providing them with visual tools and information allows them to play a better game of golf. Things look different from the middle of the fairway or when standing on the tee. The waving flag of the pin that is 200 yards away does not tell the golfer what to expect at the green. These are all the challenges that make Golf the best game or sport EVER. Where the pin is placed can make the game fun for all levels. Pin placement will also test the golf skills of all players and it helps maintain the condition of the course. Making the process of where to place the pin easier reduces costs, stress and time so course management can spend more time doing what they should be doing..making sure the golfers have a good time at their facility.

If you are a General Manager, Golf Professional or Course Superintendent, you should check out what ezLocator can offer your facility. I am sure there is a problem ezLocator can solve for you.

Reducing Stress and Preserving the Putting Surface

Software Simplifies Pin Placement, Improves Courses

October 28, 2009 – Dallas, TX – Greenskeepers are challenged daily with the job of creating new looks for their course regulars while managing traffic flow along the green to prevent turf grass damage and reduce operating costs. A pin and hole cannot be legitimately placed at every place on the green.

During a tournament, pin placement selections are even more crucial, taking traffic flow and patterns into consideration as well as other historical data. Pin placement can become a highly-detailed and intensive process that directly affects the popularity and playability of a course.

Wear around the hole from daily putting and play demands that the new pin location be located at least 12′ to 20′ away from the previous location. This wear and tear requires moving the pin location on a daily basis. If a pin is left in the same spot for a few days during the summer, the turf will be destroyed.

One solution to the problem Greenskeepers face in consistently trying to determine new pin locations is the new, ezLocator software that utilizes a unique system to eliminate the shortcomings of the human method. ezLocator is a hole location tool that can return an infinite number of hole location configurations with one mouse click.

“ezLocator provides true control of the hole locations for the Greens Superintendent,” says Daren Masanda, PGA Head Professional and General Manager of Bluebonnet Hill Golf Club. “ezLocator alleviates traffic flow on the greens and makes playing more enjoyable. Golfers see different hole locations instead of the same positions round after round.”

Big Idea for Golf Courses Sprang from 19th-Hole Conversation

ezLocator System Gives Golfers an Infinite Number of Hole Placements

DALLAS, Sept. XX, 2009 — In mid-2003, Jon Schultz finished a round of golf at Dallas Athletic Club (DAC) and was settling wagers and swapping lies with his regular golfing group.

Who knew that a new idea for golf courses was moments away?

“Someone mentioned that the holes were in the same locations as the previous Sunday,” Schultz recalls. “The discussion became very heated and lively — everyone had an opinion about how holes were placed at the club.”

DAC’s Green Superintendent, Kevin Nettles, walked by and Schultz asked him to sit down and tell everyone how he sets the daily hole locations. He explained that he used a process common in the industry: a quadrant hole placement system with five hole location quadrants assigned per green. With the quadrant system, the hole locations change each day over a seven-day period.

“We realized there were two significant drawbacks,” Schultz said. “The first was it created a set hole location pattern for each course. The second drawback was, the course would have the same hole location pattern every five days.”

For golfers who play only on weekends – a high percentage — Saturday’s hole locations would be the same as the previous Sunday’s. More variety was needed.

“I convinced a buddy of mine, software programmer Matt Housey, that we could create a software program that would solve the problem once and for all,” Schmidt said.

In a few days, a computerized hole-placement system was sketched out on paper and shared with Nettles. “It wasn’t long until our first working prototype was creating random pin locations for each hole at our club,” Schultz said.

The final prototype “was ready about 90 days after the initial concept, and was used at DAC in June 2009, when the first release of ezLocator became available,” said Schultz, president of Computer Asset Management, the parent company of ezLocator.

Today, with the simple push of a button, ezLocator software provides an infinite variety of hole locations and a daily pinsheet.

“Golfers at DAC now have a lot of variety each time they play, because the hole locations change daily,” Schultz said.

DAC Green Superintendent Kevin Nettles worked with Schultz and Housey throughout the development process.
